Profile

Mr. Sheller is the founder and managing partner of Sheller, P.C., which is one of the most respected plaintiff's personal injury and class action law firms in the Eastern United States (founded in 1977).  He has been in practice since 1963. In 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, Mr. Sheller was recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in Philadelphia Magazine.

Mr. Sheller maintains a national practice concentrating in areas of medical malpractice, toxic tort, medical device and drug product and complex catastrophic personal injury litigation. He represents clients in litigation throughout the United States involving drug product and medical device liability, medical malpractice, toxic torts, complex catastrophic personal injuries, and civil rights.

Recent successes include over $4.2 billion in recoveries as counsel representing whistleblowers in pharmaceutical off-label marketing, failure to warn and other qui tam matters. A $520 million settlement in 2010 was the largest in Pennsylvania and third largest in the U.S.

Mr. Sheller recently initiated litigation, the first of its kind, against the "ghostwriting" company for the manufacturer of antipsychotic drugs, claiming co-conspiracy to mislead medical professionals and consumers.

As a result of Mr. Sheller's unique legal strategies now used as a model in states across the U.S., he was honored with the first annual "Pioneer Award" by the Tobacco Control Resource Center at the winter 2011 American Association for Justice conference.

Mr. Sheller was also named a finalist in the 2003 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award given by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice "for discovering the light cigarette fraud and initiating the litigation strategy to remedy the deception." Mr. Sheller's efforts resulted in the $10.1 Billion verdict against Phillip Morris in Illinois.

Canadian law firms brought Attorney Sheller in to advise on class action regarding tobacco "light" cigarette fraud; the class was recently certified in the Province of British Columbia.

Mr. Sheller often lectures on law in continuing legal education courses on behalf of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Insurance Defense Institute, The American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers. He has chaired and/or presented lectures on breast implants, tobacco litigation and other product litigation at Mealey's and Andrews Publications legal seminars.

Mr. Sheller has appeared on numerous occasions as a panel member on television legal education and information programs for lawyers and the public sponsored by Law Journal Television, the New Jersey Law Journal and the Pennsylvania Legal Intelligencer in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania on topics such as medical malpractice, tobacco, diet drugs, complex litigation, class actions, HMO's and legal ethics. He has been a special presenter and lecturer on law at The National Judicial College, Northeastern Law School, the 19th and 20th Conferences of the Tobacco Products Liability Project and other educational institutions. He has appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America," CNN, MSNBC, CBS's Early Show, CN8's It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle, and all major Philadelphia-area network news programs.

In November 2000, Mr. Sheller began the Palm Beach County, Florida litigation involving the 2000 U.S. Presidential election and the butterfly ballots. As a result, he was featured in national, regional and local media for his role as a lead attorney challenging the voting count. He appeared on CNN's Burden of Proof with Greta Van Susteren, National Public Radio, Cable News Network, CBS, NBC, and ABC News, among many others, to discuss the 2000 presidential election calamity. Mr. Sheller was even seen on one news program debating, the then chair of the Pennsylvania Republican Party. Mr. Sheller addressed the Broward County and Palm Beach County Florida ballots that he argued are unconstitutional, denying citizens their rights to vote. Sheller alleged that if a proper analysis were to be conducted, it would have been proven that Al Gore won the election by several thousand votes. Therefore, Gore should rightfully be President of the United States today.

Mr. Sheller's publications include "The Physician and Hospital as Potential Defendants in Drug and Medical Device Claims" in the legal textbook Pharmaceutical Law published by Harrison Company in 2000 and Law Review articles such as the Temple Law Review article "The Consumers Interest - Is It Being Protected by the Public Utility Commission."

Mr. Sheller is a member of the Drexel University Board of Trustees, past member of the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania State University and past and present member of the boards of several other organizations and entities, concerned with law and education. Edward G. Rendell, Governor of Pennsylvania, appointed Mr. Sheller to the Rendell Transition Team on Boards and Commissions. Mr. Sheller has received the rating of "AV" (the highest available) from the publishers of the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory, indicating a legal ability of "very high to preeminent".
