Profile

In 1989, E. Bart Daniel was nominated by President Bush as the United States Attorney for South Carolina. Bart served in that role until 1992, during which time he was awarded the United States Attorney’s Flag Award for exceptional prosecution achievements in Operation Lost Trust, the largest case of legislative public corruption in U.S. history.

Since his return to private practice in 1992, Bart has dedicated his energy and skills to defending government investigations involving white collar enforcement and criminal defense. He has successfully defended government investigations involving health care enforcement, environmental, securities, the False Claims Act, bank fraud and government contractor fraud. He has both prosecuted and defended  environmental cases, federal and state health care cases and False Claim Act or "whistleblower" actions. Bart is uniquely qualified to defend such matters as these are the very type of investigations he ran as a federal and state prosecutor years before.

Bart served as Special Counsel to the Governor, where he was responsible for investigating allegations of public corruption at state level. In other complex cases, he served as Lead Counsel for the S.C. House of Representatives and was appointed Special Counsel by the S.C. Securities Commissioner.

In 2009, The Citadel awarded Bart an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree, the highest honor the collage can bestow.

In addition to having spoken at countless seminars, Bart has co-authored numerous publications about defending federal investigations, including Health Care Fraud and Collateral Consequences, Federal and State Securities Enforcement, Environmental Crimes and Corporate Liablility and other white collar crime publications. He recently co-authored the featured article "Health Care Reform" in the South Carolina Lawyer, the official publication of the South Carolina Bar.
