Answering the Call

Bickel & Brewer brings its unique brand of advocacy to a variety of community causes. Nowhere is this more evident than in Dallas, where the firm has pioneered a number of programs in the areas of law and education. In 2001, the Bickel & Brewer Foundation founded the Bickel & Brewer Future Leaders Program (FLP), an academic and leadership development program that benefits more than 150 inner-city students. Recognized by the Texas State Board of Education, the FLP lights a path to college for deserving students in need. The firm also funds the Bickel & Brewer Storefront, which provides legal services to many people involved in issues with far-reaching community impact. The Storefront is currently successfully challenging the illegal “immigration ordinances” proposed in the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch. The Storefront has opposed the ordinances in court, and helped lead an educational and advocacy campaign in the court of public opinion. “This is an effort that seems to be having a ripple effect Ð effecting positive change in communities across the nation,” says partner James S.
