OTTO JACKIE-DON "J-D" SCHACHT, Managing Partner
J-D, a trial lawyer and managing partner of Eggleston & Briscoe’s West Texas office, is a former member of the South Texas College of Law’s nationally renowned advocacy program. His passion for teaching led J-D to serve as an adjunct professor of advocacy and coach of numerous national championship advocacy teams for South Texas College of Law. Before studying law, J-D was a corrections officer.
J-D concentrates on first and third party insurance litigation, civil business litigation and complex subrogation claims. Recognized as a Texas Rising Star in 2012 and 2013, J-D represents clients in a wide variety of litigation, including property, bad faith, wrongful death, dram shop, premises liability, subrogation and personal injury claims.
Born in Warrensburg, Missouri, and raised in the Lubbock area, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology. Following graduation, J-D worked as a community supervision and corrections officer in Brazos County, Texas, before attending South Texas College of Law. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas in 2002.
While attending South Texas, JD served as chairman of the Board of Advocates. As a member of the school’s Advocacy program, he participated in numerous competitions across the country and was a member of the 2002 J. Braxton Craven, Jr. Memorial Moot Court Championship Team. J-D was also a member of Phi Delta Phi Honors Fraternity.
J-D joined Eggleston & Briscoe upon graduation from law school and became a partner on Jan. 1, 2009.
From graduation through 2009, J-D served as an adjunct professor of advocacy at South Texas. He coached many advocacy teams to national championships, including South Texas College of Law’s 100th national championship. He also serves as an adjunct instructor for the Wayland Baptist University School of Business in Plainview, Texas.
J-D is licensed to practice law in all Texas trial and appellate courts as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Lubbock County Bar Association.
