Since 1995, Johnny Ward has zealously represented clients in intellectual property disputes, complex commercial litigation, car wrecks, 18-wheeler accidents and wrongful death claims. He has secured courtroom victories for clients such as Callaway Golf and Target Corp., and he even helped win a murder conviction against a man accused of killing his wife for insurance money.
Mr. Ward has served as lead attorney in more than 30 trials, helping him earn a national reputation in high-stakes litigation, including assisting lawyers from around the country in complex cases before East Texas juries. He has scored major victories in patent infringement cases against some of the world’s most recognizable companies, including Samsung and Microsoft. - Mr. Ward served as an unpaid special prosecutor in State v. Moulton, a murder case that stemmed from the wrongful death civil case he handled on behalf of a decedent’s family. The criminal trial resulted in a murder conviction.

- April 19, 2006 – Co-lead counsel in one of the largest patent infringement verdicts ever handed down against computer giant Microsoft and other defendants. z4 Technologies, Inc. vs. Microsoft Corporation and Autodesk, Inc., No. 6:06-CV-142, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.
- May 23, 2011 – Co-lead counsel in a substantial patent infringement verdict won by a developer of antennas for wireless devices against global technology giant Samsung Electronics. Fractus, S.A. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al., No. 6:09cv203, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.
Educational Background:
- Mr. Ward earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, Texas, in 1995. In 1992, he earned his undergraduate degree with distinction at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., majoring in economics.
