He learned about divorce and family law the hard way, before ever becoming a family law attorney. Experiencing his own divorce, Victor Rivera went into it unprepared and didn’t hire the most effective divorce attorney possible. A simple divorce without child custody or substantial property division issues turned into a three-year fiasco he was forced to complete himself.
“My own divorce convinced me that any family law client of mine should not suffer the problems I faced,” says Mr. Rivera. “Family law litigation is one of the hardest areas of law because of the emotional impact it has on the family dynamic.”
He regularly handles large property settlements, including the division of retirement assets, complex divorce and family law litigation, prenuptial agreements, paternity issues, post-divorce modifications and even family law appeals.
A KoonsFuller Associate in the Denton office, Mr. Rivera served in the U.S. Army as a cryptologic linguist (honorable discharge, 1995). He was a member of the Fort Worth Police Department (1999-2004).
While serving as a police officer, he earned a Bachelor of Applied Sciences with a dual major in political science and criminal justice from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls (2003). At Texas Tech, he simultaneously earned his M.B.A. from the Rawls College of Business and a J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law (2007).
He was a law clerk for a firm in Lubbock and taught business law at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. He moved back home to North Texas in 2008 and began his practice as a family law attorney. He also currently serves as an associate judge for the Town of Flower Mound Municipal Court. Mr. Rivera is currently president of the Denton County Bar Association’s Family Law Section and often volunteers as a pro bono attorney in Denton County.
He is fluent in Spanish.
