Waddoups graduated from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1982. He is an active member of the Utah and Idaho bar associations. He is married to Natalie Nelson. They have five children. His son Riley is a lawyer at the firm. His daughter Michelle recently graduated from law school, and sat for the February 2011 bar exam.
