Profile

Known for consistent courtroom success, Gary Mims has practiced law since 1980 and over the past 30 years, has developed a special interest and significant expertise in medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases.   He was a defense litigator for 20 years, defending a heavy schedule of trials involving automobile, trucking, train and other transportation accidents and a wide variety of personal injury cases. A plaintiff's attorney since 1999, he has successfully represented clients in complicated medical cases involving failure to diagnose cancer, defective joint prostheses, anesthesia-related injuries and weight-loss drugs. Gary has also successfully represented clients suffering injury and death by a massive train wreck, defective golf course design, and a defective storm retention pond, among others.  He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1974. While attending the George Mason School of Law, he worked full-time for the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. He served as counsel to the U. S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics on several major investigations and then went into private practice.  Since 2007 he has partnered with Charles Sickels and Steve Frei in one of the most experienced personal injury firms in Northern Virginia.  Gary has, and has had since 1984, an AV Peer Review Rating by Martindale Hubbell and is included in The Best Lawyers in America and Washington, DC's and Virginia’s Super Lawyers. Washingtonian Magazine has honored him since 2007 as among the top one percent of personal injury attorneys in the region and Northern Virginia Magazine named him to the roster of Legal Lions.   He is a member of the Fairfax and American Bar Associations; the Virginia State Bar; the D.C. Bar; the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
