Mary Owens, a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received her law degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law of the University of Richmond in 1986. Mary is the leader of Owen & Owens' PLC Family Law Team of the Richmond, VA area and focuses her practice on family law, real estate and other civil litigation matters. She has been trained both as a mediator and as a collaborative lawyer. Mary’s extensive experience and training enable her to assist clients in achieving their goals through negotiation, alternative dispute resolution and litigation.
Mary Owens is a founding member and former president of the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar, and a past president of the Chesterfield County Bar Association. She has served as an officer and been active in the Metro Richmond Women’s Bar Association. She is a frequent lecturer for attorneys in continuing legal education programs on family law and has lectured for the Virginia Apartment Management Association. Mary was recommended by the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Committee and served a three-year term on the Virginia Bar Professionalism Course Faculty from 2006 to 2009. She also served two three-year terms on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Committee, which oversees and disciplines attorneys on ethics matters.
Mary is well respected among her peers and has achieved Martindale-Hubbell's highest AV® Preeminent rating for legal ability and ethical standards. She was named one of the Influential Women of Virginia by Virginia Lawyers Media in 2011, recognizing women in all fields who are making notable contributions to their chosen professions, their communities and society at large. She has been listed in Virginia Business magazine's "Legal Elite" in the domestic relations category since 2001. Since 2006 she has been selected for "Virginia Super Lawyers" in the family law category, and for three years in a row, Mary has received the added distinction as one of the "Top 25 Women Super Lawyers" which indicates she received one of the highest point totals in the nomination, research and blue ribbon review process.
When Mary is not helping her clients, or leading her women’s book club, she can be found traveling or fishing at her cottage on the Chesapeake Bay.
