James D. Nelson has been a civil trial lawyer for 27 years and is president of Betts, Patterson & Mines, P.S. James has a diverse complex litigation practice with an emphasis in business litigation. His areas of concentration include mergers and acquisitions, sales of goods, intellectual property, class actions and trade regulation. James received an Economics degree from the University of Oregon in 1977, and his law degree from the University of Washington in 1980. James attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy's Northwest Regional Program in 1983 and taught at the International Association of Defense Counsel's Trial Academy in 2006. James is a member of the business litigation and intellectual property committees of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
