Profile
I have practiced civil litigation since 1982. In that time I have gained much experience trying cases is state and federal courts. As a partner at Lee Smart in Seattle I did insurance defense work which acquainted me with insurance companies and coverage. Later, as a partner at Foster Pepper in Seattle, I used this experience to develop my specialty of representing policyholders in disputes with their insurers. My practice has included work on many well-known Seattle buildings. The Dexter Horton, Cadillac, Buttnick, Newmark and Colman buildings are examples of commercial property work. Regata, Gold Pointe, Park Avenue, Walden Park, Issaquah Court, 1000 Virginia, On the Green at Harbor Pointe and Signature Pointe are a few of the examples of multi-family residential work, including condominiums and condominium conversions. My practice is exclusively insurance coverage and litigation, with an emphasis on commercial property and liability coverage, including builder's risk, OCIP, CCIP and construction defect. I also has extensive experience with directors and officers, errors and omissions, and disability coverage. I am a graduate of the University of Illinois School of Law. I am a frequent speaker on insurance coverage. My article, "Water Losses: Understanding the Current Cases and Emerging Issues," was recently published in The Brief, a publication of the ABA. My Martindale rating is AV.
