Rachel Black is a partner at Susman Godfrey L.L.P., one of the nation's leading litigation boutique law firms. She is a trial lawyer who specializes in high-stakes commercial litigation for both plaintiffs and defendants, often under alternative fee arrangements. Ms. Black prides herself on her versatility and dedication.  She has tried and managed cases in state and federal courts across the country involving a variety of claims, including antitrust, contracts, fraud, accounting malpractice, employment, intellectual propery, and environmental remediation.  Ms. Black is also a powerful advocate for women and diversity in the Bar. She is the President and a founder of the Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association of Seattle, which has over 700 members and has sister branches in a number of other cities.  The organization's goals include empowering and supporting mother attorneys and promoting their advancement within the profession.  She is also a member of her firm's diversity committee and is a former member of the Washington State Bar Committee for Diversity.  Before joining Susman Godfrey, Ms. Black was a federal law clerk for the Honorable Robert R. Beezer in the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Alan C. Kay in the United States District Court of Hawaii. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 1999, where she was a law review editor; her M.S. in 1996; and her B.A. in 1991.
