Robert Chicoine's practice focuses on federal civil tax controversy, defending criminal tax prosecutions, commercial litigation, and professional malpractice suits involving tax shelters. Mr. Chicoine successfully appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court in Gitlitz v. Commissioner, 531 U.S. 206, 121 S.Ct. 701 (2001) and has resolved or litigated a wide variety of complex tax and business-related controversies. An Adjunct Professor at the University of Washington Graduate Program in Taxation for several years, Mr. Chicoine has lectured on topics such as federal tax procedures, ethics, taxation, and defense of federal prosecutions. He is a past President of the WSBA Tax Section and sits on its executive committee.
