The Selection Process
In selecting attorneys for Super Lawyers, Law & Politics employs a rigorous, multiphase process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.
The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel. Since Super Lawyers is intended to be used as an aid in the selection of a lawyer, we limit the list to attorneys who can be hired and retained by the public, i.e., lawyers in private practice and Legal Aid attorneys.

West Virginia Super Lawyers & Rising Stars is published in July in a special advertising section in Richmond Magazine, which reaches more than 200,000 monthly readers. West Virginia Super Lawyers & Rising Stars also appears in Virginia Super Lawyers magazine, which is delivered to Virginia lawyers, the lead corporate counsel of the Russell 3000 companies and the ABA-approved law school libraries, for a total readership of 27,000.
