Mr. Karlin represents clients in wrongful death, serious personal injury, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, employee discrimination, and civil rights cases throughout West Virginia. He is a graduate of Yale University, Summa Cum Laude, and of Boalt Hall, University of California at Berkeley, where he was Order of the Coif. Mr. Karlin has practiced law in West Virginia since 1975. He began his career as a legal services attorney and, later, as Director of the North Central West Virginia Legal Aid Society. In November 1981, Mr. Karlin opened his own private practice in Morgantown.
Mr. Karlin is a member of The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers (2007) and the American College of Trial Lawyers (2006), and a Fellow of the West Virginia Bar Foundation (2004). In 2005, he received the Sid Bell Memorial Award from the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia and, in 2006, he was named Member of the Year by the West Virginia Association for Justice. Mr. Karlin is a Past President of the West Virginia Association for Justice, a Past Chairperson of the West Virginia Lawyer Disciplinary Board and a member of the Ethics & Sanctions Committee of the National Employment Lawyers Association. For over ten years, Best Lawyers has recognized his work in the field of employment law. Mr. Karlin has also taught as an adjunct lecturer at West Virginia University College of Law. He has also served as a Board member of the West Virginia Fund for law in the Public Interest since 1987.
