Local Counsel with Benjamin E. Shiftan

The San Francisco attorney tells us what’s good in the neighborhood

Published in 2016 Northern California Super Lawyers Magazine — August 2016

Favorite watering hole  -  Lion Pub in Pacific Heights. They have amazing greyhounds. The lion statue is pretty cool, too.

Best restaurant  -  Amber India in the Financial District. The Nalli Vindaloo is pretty life-changing.

Weekend getaway  -  Skiing in Tahoe (ideally, Kirkwood Mountain).

Favorite historical site in San Francisco  -  Night tour of Alcatraz. “The Rock” is awesome any time you visit, but taking a night tour adds a whole new layer of creepiness.

Best deli  -  Toss-up between Diller’s downtown and Miller’s on Polk Street.

Best view  -  Seems incredibly cliché, but you cannot beat a view of the sun setting behind the Golden Gate Bridge.

Favorite park  -  Golden Gate Park, during the Outside Lands Music Festival. There is always a top-rate and eclectic mix of bands.

Best place for people-watching  -  The annual Bay to Breakers race. Sure, some people run the 7 miles, but most people just use it as an opportunity to wear the wildest costumes they can find.

Favorite local shop  -  Marine Layer. Great local store that has the softest T-shirts and sweaters.

Favorite coffee shop  -  Another Café in Nob Hill. Best bagels in the city.

Favorite pizza joint  -  Tough call, as SF is a great pizza city. Probably Delarosa in the Marina. Try the meatballs.

Toughest hike  -  Probably North Peak of Mount Diablo in the East Bay. Phenomenal workout. Make sure you bring enough water.

Best Friday happy hour  -  83 Proof in SoMa. Order the dark and stormy.

Best Mexican restaurant  -  Velvet Cantina in the Mission. Cool atmosphere and delicious queso.

Out-of-town guests are impressed with  -  Literally everything. Hence, everyone is moving here.
