The St. Louis attorney praises Intellivision, Fitbit and the Notorious R.B.G.

The most surprising thing about my day job is … no two days are the same. On Monday I drafted official rules for a retail store sweepstakes and Tuesday I prepared an epidemiologist and FDA regulatory expert for a deposition in a pharmaceuticals case.

My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I am obsessively competitive in Fitbit challenges.
Once I developed plantar fasciitis because I was trying to win the Workweek Hustle.

The lawyer I most admire is … Booker Shaw. He is a tremendously skilled litigator and, even more impressively, a good person.

My pre-trial routine is … Diet Coke and preparation.

My career high point (so far) has been … first-chairing a jury trial in federal court in the Eastern District of Missouri.

The SCOTUS justice I’d like to meet is … the Notorious R.B.G. Hands down.

I can’t believe more people haven’t read … 11/22/63 by Stephen King. If you want the CliffsNotes version, it’s a TV series on Hulu.

My fictional hero is … Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s a cult classic that’s much more multidimensional than it seems. Plus, Buffy saves the world. A lot.

My real life hero is … my mother, who will cringe when she reads this.

If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … a book editor. My friends tease me for being the only person they know who still uses a library card.

On weekends I … love to hike Castlewood State Park in St. Louis County with Sammie, my extremely hyper 5-year-old miniature pinscher/terrier mix.

The movie line I quote most often is … “You’re killing me, Smalls.”

I wish I had invented … the Intellivison (a.k.a. Atari’s less popular video game sibling). My dad bought this clunky beauty in the early ’80s and I’ve been in love with gaming ever since.

I can’t go a day without … FaceTiming my nephew, S.J. He’s the cutest almost-2-year-old in the world.
Our favorite topics are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (he’s a fan) and tricks for staying up past his bedtime (I’m a fan).

If I had a morning show, my co-hosts would be … Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. If you need an explanation, you’re not laughing enough.

My motto is … it always seems impossible until it’s done.

I get angry when … people are rude to others. It’s unnecessary and unproductive.

If I won the lottery I’d … pay off the student loans of all my friends and family members.

If you were in my office, you’d … see a framed photo of what looks like an eye chart but is actually a quote: “She believed she could, so she did.” It reminds me that even when I’m squinting my eyes trying to figure out a complex problem, the answer is often right there.
