Victoria “Cookie” Cook on why she’d make an effin’ bad morning-show host

Published in 2017 New York Metro Super Lawyers — October 2017

My nickname is … Most people call me Victoria—or Vicki, if they knew me in high school. But I wish my nickname was “Cookie”—which was my dad’s—but mainly because of the character on Empire, who is my spirit sister.

When I started, I wish I knew … that nobody is perfect at their job.

If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … a not-very-talented documentary filmmaker.

I almost quit the law because …  I did quit the law to be the head of domestic sales and finance at Cinetic Media for a year; but I found out I love being a lawyer and came running back to my firm. So even though I quit the law, I guess the law couldn’t quit me.

The SCOTUS justice I’d most like to meet is … The Notorious RBG.

The SCOTUS decision I’d most like to overturn is … It’s a toss-up between Shelby County v. Holder and Citizens United. Call me crazy but I prefer democracy.

My favorite Twitter feed is … playwright and Elle magazine columnist R. Eric Thomas (@oureric). His Twitter feed and his column have gotten me through the 11 months since the election.

I can’t believe more people haven’t read … the actual Constitution when they claim to be all about defending the Constitution.

I get angry when … I think of the current administration and its attacks on the rule of law and the values this country is founded on.

If I had a morning show, my co-host would be … I think I’m more suited for late night (see “My favorite word” below).

My favorite word is … unprintable. I love to swear.

My least-favorite word is … literally. Even though I use it literally all the time.

The last TV show I binge-watched was … Ryan White and Jessica Hargrave’s Netflix series The Keepers.
Full disclosure: They’re clients.

Nothing cheers me up like … a good night’s sleep.

If I won the lottery I’d … give most of it to a criminal justice reform organization and use the rest for luxury travel.
