Super Lawyers Trusted Selection Process Now Patented

Attorney rating service’s comprehensive process receives the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s approval

Apr 05, 2013

Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business and lawyer rating service, announced its rigorous selection process has been patented (U.S. Pat. No. 8,412,564). It is one of the few services of its kind to receive this distinction.

The multiphase selection process involves creation of the candidate pool, evaluation of candidates by the research department, and peer evaluation by practice area. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Candidates cannot nominate themselves, nor can they pay to be on a Super Lawyers list.

“We are honored to have a recently granted U.S. patent relating to lawyer-ratings,” says Julie Gleason, Director of Research, Super Lawyers. “We take our credibility very seriously, and having a patent assures our customers that we strive to be innovation leaders in our area.”

The objective of Super Lawyers is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis and are published in Super Lawyers Magazines nationwide, as well as within state and regional magazines and newspapers.
