Horace Smith, Jr.

Horace Smith, Jr., is one of the founding partners at Daytona Beach, Florida-based Smith Bigman Brock. He devotes a great deal of his practice to family law matters, and since 1985, he has been certified as a specialist in marital and family law by the Board of Legal Specialization & Certification of The Florida Bar. For several years, Mr. Smith was certified as a specialist in criminal trial law by that same organization as well, and he continues to handle many of those types of cases.

Mr. Smith is a 1964 Bachelor of Arts recipient from Florida State University, and he obtained his legal education at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law, graduating with his Juris Doctor in 1967. Prior to co-founding his current firm in 1988, Mr. Smith was a partner at another area law firm, and he also spent several years as the city attorney for Bunnell, Florida, the county seat of Flagler County. He has been admitted to practice in Florida since 1967, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 11th Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Smith has handled a wide variety of family law matters during his distinguished career. In addition to his experience in counseling clients who are going through a divorce, his caseload has included domestic violence, the modification to or enforcement of existing support and parenting orders, grandparents’ rights, and the preparation and review of prenuptial agreements. In his criminal defense practice, Mr. Smith has obtained positive results for people who have faced misdemeanor or felony charges. His successful track record has earned him numerous honors and awards, including an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
