My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I was on Wheel of Fortune in college and won!
The quality I most like in a lawyer is … creativity. That can mean coming up with creative legal arguments, or thinking outside the box for settlement.
My pre-trial routine is … to eat breakfast and listen to a couple of songs in the car that pump me up. I did this each day on my way to the bar exam, and I still do it to this day when I have a big workday ahead of me and want an extra boost of confidence.
When I started, I wish I knew … how to say no to work. I always wanted to work with new people and assist with interesting matters, even if I was too busy to do it. But I learned that you cannot always help on every case and that stretching yourself too thin impacts the work you do on all of your cases. Other lawyers understand if you are too busy and cannot take on a new matter, you just need to be open with your communication and know your limits.
If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … an interior designer or home organizer. There were quite a few Netflix series I binged during the pandemic that further confirmed this for me.
When I win a case, I celebrate by … having a nice dinner and a glass of wine with my husband.
A different practice area that intrigues me is … white-collar crime. When I was in college, I looked into joining the FBI to be an analyst in the white-collar crime division.
I can do a pretty good impersonation of … Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory.
On weekends I … watch TV (usually football) and take my dog for a walk around the lake or play at the dog park.
The most fascinating person I ever met is … Sonia Sotomayor. Her story is so inspirational.
My motto is … ‘Everyone is your friend until they prove otherwise.’
The craziest thing I witnessed in a courtroom is … an attorney asking the jury to award his clients $1 million, but saying it in the Dr. Evil voice from Austin Powers.
My earliest memory is … dropping our house key in the snow and my mom having my brothers and me look for it like hide and go seek. Whoever found the key first won a prize.
The movie line I quote most often is … ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner.’
The last TV show I binge-watched was … Ted Lasso.
My guilty pleasure is … Real Housewives. Any city, I’m not picky.
If I won the lottery I’d … open a bakery. My retirement plan includes studying pastry in France and then opening a bakery, so winning the lottery would expedite that goal.
