My nickname is … Mical or Coco. Micalann was really hard for my 2-year-old self—and most adults—to pronounce.
My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I hunt and fish.
When I was a newbie lawyer I … thought that I could automatically trust opposing counsel.
The quality I most like in a lawyer is … any of our JW Fundamentals, really, but I’ll narrow it to the ability to speak and communicate constructively.
My pre-trial routine is … listening to Peter, Paul and Mary’s version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane” to set the pace of my speaking. (I have a habit of talking fast.)
My career high point (so far) has been … being selected for the ABA TIPS Leadership Academy this year. The group of 24 lawyers from across the nation is incredibly talented and inspiring.
If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … a management consultant, recording artist or voice of the next Disney heroine.
The SCOTUS justice I’d like to meet is … the Notorious RBG, of course. I have a coloring page of her on my desk colored by my 6-year-old daughter.
I can’t believe more people haven’t read … source documents for the social media articles they share.
I can do a pretty good impersonation of … Reba McEntire. “Fancy” is one of my go-to karaoke songs.
My most bizarre talent is … my repertoire of character voices for the books I read my children.
On my best day I … don’t sweat the small stuff.
On my worst day I … need two cups of coffee, a Diet Coke and probably a nap.
My motto is … any of the JW Fundamentals, but if I have to pick one, it would be “be relentless about continuous improvement” in every aspect of your life. Also, “get the facts before you react,” another oft-repeated phrase to my children that works equally well when dealing with adults.
The craziest thing I witnessed in a courtroom is … a defendant stifling a chuckle when they played the 911 recording of him calling the police on himself: “I’m driving down the road, and I just did cocaine …”
My earliest memory is … stopping on country roads with my grandma to pick wild lilacs and plums.
The movie line I quote most often is … “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” – The Princess Bride
If I had a morning show, my co-host would be … James Corden, and we would be hosting Carpool Karaoke.
The last TV show I binge-watched was … Outlander, a wonderful show based on even better books by a local Scottsdale author.
Nothing cheers me up like … hugs from my kiddos.
If I won the lottery I’d … not change a thing about my current life. I would create a fund with the Arizona Community Foundation to benefit underprivileged youth through music.
My courtroom walk-up song would be … “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” theme. I grew up on Westerns with my dad—such a classic showdown song.
