Best place to take a client  –  SNHU Arena. Great concert and sporting event venue. Recently saw Blake Shelton in concert with clients.

Best restaurant  –  Cotton is a hip bistro in a restored mill building down along the Merrimack River. It has an eclectic menu and a strong following. Excellent servers. Try the “Wedge” salad and any seafood entrée.

Favorite historical resident  –  John Stark, hero of the American Revolution, had his family farm down the street from my house in Manchester. He coined the state motto and license plate phrase with an 1809 toast honoring the anniversary of the Battle of Bennington: “Live free or die; Death is not the worst of evils.”

Favorite fly-fishing spot  –  I have been fortunate to fish all over the world. The best spot near Manchester is the Contoocook River in West Henniker. Excellent catch-and-release fishing for rainbow and brown trout. But if you can grab two weeks, there is the South Island of New Zealand, which is glorious.

Where to go after a win?  –  The Puritan Backroom—a favorite of politicians and lawyers alike. Excellent chicken tenders and charbroiled swordfish. Everyone will be there.

Go-to sports venue  –  Northeast Delta Dental Stadium is the home of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, a minor league baseball team. The stadium has wonderful baseball under the lights, good food, party function areas and luxury suites. The kids will love the team mascots.

Go-to arts venue  –  The Currier Museum. A fabulous museum with beautiful architecture and exhibits, and great art: Winslow Homer, Picasso, Sargent, Monet, O’Keeffe …

Favorite local shop  –  Angela’s Pasta & Cheese Shop. Homemade pasta, sauces, breads, desserts, wide array of cheeses, wines. Super stuff to buy when you are heading home late, having promised to make dinner.

Place to take out-of-town guests  –  The SEE Science Center in the restored millyard. A hands-on interactive learning center, with a focus on kids. Machines, electricity, Lego exhibits, sound experiments; the dinosaur exhibit with moving robotic creatures is a huge hit when it comes to town.

Weekend getaway  –  The Felmly lake house on Rangeley Lake in the western mountains of Maine. The original house was built in 1903; it sits 11 feet off the lake with water views from every spot in the house. It’s a family gathering place: kayaks, waterskiing, Sunfish sailing, loons, moose, eagles and a Wolf Cooktop in the kitchen for creating family feasts.

Favorite thing about your office  –  The views. West to Mount Monadnock, north up the Merrimack River to the foothills of the Whites. Fabulous winter sunsets. Peregrine falcons frequent the downtown buildings and dive past the office windows.
