Favorite watering hole – Vintage 1740.
Favorite sports bar – George’s Pub. It’s actually just across the river in Jenks, but it is my favorite.
Weekend getaway – Kansas City. It is about the same distance as Dallas, but I enjoy the low-key atmosphere more.
Favorite historical site in Tulsa – Philbrook Museum of Art. Waite Phillips built this 72-room home for his family in the mid-1920s and it’s now a world-class museum.
Favorite quote about Tulsa – “Livin’ on Tulsa time” — from the Don Williams song.
Favorite city event – Tulsa Tough is a three-day cycling event that is definitely my favorite, but Oktoberfest is a really close second.
Where to go after a win – Home—most likely I haven’t been home in a while, and I like to celebrate with my family.
Where to go after a loss – Home—to lick my wounds.
Favorite breakfast spot – Brookside by Day (I and II).
Favorite lunch spot – Billy’s on the Square, but let’s be honest: I go there for their frozen lemonade.
Best place to reflect – River Parks trails. Tulsa has the best trail system, and heading out for a run or a bike ride gives me time alone with my thoughts.
Favorite park – Woodward Park.
Go-to sports venue – Hunter-Dwelley Stadium at Jenks High School for some varsity boys lacrosse; H.A. Chapman Stadium (aka Skelly Field) at the University of Tulsa for some football; ONEOK Field for some Drillers baseball.
Go-to arts venue – The Tulsa Performing Arts Center is home to the Tulsa Opera, and I am a huge fan, but my favorite venue is Cain’s Ballroom. It is a small venue and is known as the home of Bob Wills, “The King of Western Swing.” My grandfather, a drummer, played with him many years ago.
Favorite historical resident – Will Rogers.
Most beautiful spot – Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area.
Best place for people watching – Hands down, the Tulsa State Fair! The rest of the year, Guthrie Green always has something going that draws a diverse group of people.
Favorite coffeeshop – Foolish Things Coffee Company, just a few blocks away from the state and federal courthouses.
Favorite pizza joint – Hideaway Pizza and Savastano’s Pizzeria. Hideaway originated in Stillwater, Oklahoma (Go Pokes!), and their Big Country is a pizza you shouldn’t miss. Savastano’s Chicago-style pizza is tailor-made for cheese fans. I love the Sears Tower, too!
Favorite city law – “It shall be an offense for any person to break or train any horse, mule, donkey, or other domestic animal upon any public highway, street or alley within the city.”
