Christopher Weathers is a reasonable guy who’s just experienced some very unreasonable things

My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I’m an Eagle Scout. Or maybe they wouldn’t be.
When I was a newbie lawyer I … felt tears drop onto my fingers while typing. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a crier—during good times and bad. My eyes well up during certain movies, songs, even sporting events. And apparently, from time to time, while learning how to deal with the stress of practicing law.
The quality I most like in a lawyer is … the ability to read the room, the deal, the client, the future, and the “audience” all at once. This includes understanding the client’s business, risk tolerance, relationship with the counterparty, and leverage; knowing what’s market for similar deals; thinking through rights and risks that extend into an uncertain future; and communicating anywhere along the spectrum from highly sophisticated to plain English.
My career high point (so far) has been … well, they’re confidential. But I really got a kick out of seeing my name in the end credits of a hidden-camera film called Bad Trip.
If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … a chef‑owner of a food cart business, with one set of carts arranged around the edge of a courtyard to form a modified brigade de cuisine and bar aiming for a Michelin‑level experience, and another set of carts placed around town to provide free fresh food to anyone who needs a bite.
A different practice area that intrigues me is … civil rights. But I’m deeply engaged by my current media and entertainment practice. I can’t imagine it ever becoming boring. I’m fortunate to wake up each morning and help people bring their stories into the world.
I can’t believe more people haven’t read … The Unseen World by Liz Moore.
I can do a pretty good impersonation of … Aughra from The Dark Crystal. “Now, ask what the Great Conjunction is. What’s the Great Conjunction? … THE GREAT CONJUNCTION IS THE END OF THE WORLD! Or the beginning. Hm!”
My fictional hero is … Kilgore Trout. There’s something about his absurdity and wisdom that lives rent free in my head.
On weekends I … try to spend time doing board sports (skateboarding, snowboarding, longboard surfing), depending on the weather. I’m almost 50, and I’d love to figure out a way to keep enjoying board sports for decades to come.
My most bizarre talent is … juggling.
My favorite meal is … ahi tuna carpaccio for appetizer; Caesar salad; a main course of whole branzino piccata with capers, served with haricots verts and a side of linguine aglio e olio. For dessert, crème brûlée.
The movie line I quote most often is … “Hey, I’m a reasonable guy. But I’ve just experienced some very unreasonable things.” —Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China.
The three people (living or dead) I’d invite to dinner are … Octavia Butler, Philip K. Dick, and the Wachowski sisters. I’m a sci‑fi nerd through and through, and how wonderful would it be to cook a meal for these brilliant people, and to imagine the conversations we’d have.
My guilty pleasure is … eating popcorn with salt, butter, and nutritional yeast. I don’t really think it’s a guilty pleasure, but my kids assure me it is.
My favorite podcast is … a toss-up between Entertainment Law Update and The 404 Media Podcast.
