Favorite historical fact about Dallas – It’s the only city to host a World Series game, the NBA Finals and a Super Bowl all in the same year: 2011.
Favorite city event – Chefs for Farmers! What could be better than the top chefs from Dallas gathering in one spot for an afternoon of food and drink? How about helping out local farmers at the same time!
Best restaurant – Café Momentum. Eat amazing food and feel good when you leave. Founded by chef Chad Houser, the restaurant teaches nonviolent juvenile offenders life and job skills while they work.
Favorite place to vacation – Our favorite family vacation—the best and only vacations we get to take these days—is driving to the beaches on 30A in Florida. WaterColor Inn & Resort and SeaSide Beach Resort offer great opportunities for creating family memories.
Where to go after a win – To have a great glass of champagne on a fabulous patio! Sometimes that’s Parigi and sometimes that’s Al Biernat’s.
Where to go after a loss – To have a great glass of champagne on a fabulous patio!
Favorite courthouse perk – Nick’s Cafeteria—the best Greek salad around.
Favorite thing about your office – The camaraderie. I have the privilege of coming to work each day to see what I consider to be my second family and closest friends.
Favorite breakfast spot – Oddfellows in the Bishop Arts District. Best coffee and mimosas.
Favorite lunch spot – The Zodiac Room, of course. Nothing better than the popovers with strawberry butter, or chicken consommé, followed by the chicken salad and the mandarin orange soufflé.
Best place to reflect – On a bike ride around White Rock Lake or at spin class at Lync Cycling.
Best view – The balcony of the Belmont Hotel—or the outdoor lawn by its pool—gives you an amazing view of the downtown Dallas skyline, especially at sunset.
Go-to sports venue – In my “real grown-up” world, it would be American Airlines Center, to catch a Mavs game. In my regular world, it’s more likely Churchill Park for a baseball game with my 8-year-old son.
Best place for people-watching – The Starbucks in Highland Park Village or the Rattlesnake Bar at the Ritz in Dallas. The Rattlesnake is a must for out-of-town guests before or after heading to Fearings for dinner. You might catch a local or “big-time” celebrity.
Favorite local shop – The Gypsy Wagon for unique clothes, jewelry and gifts. Kuby’s for homemade sausages, lunch meats, gourmet cheeses and a German-style restaurant.
Favorite pizza joint – Olivella’s on McFarlin Boulevard. Love the San Daniele pizza with prosciutto and arugula.
Favorite judge to argue before – The Hon. Pat McDowell—although this may not count, because he’s my father-in-law, and I don’t truly argue in front of him. Unless I’m arguing with my husband.
Best place for a stroll – The Katy Trail runs through the Knox-Henderson area to the American Airlines Center. And when you finish, you can always stop at the Katy Trail Ice House for a cold beer and some great BBQ.
Most famous resident – Mary Kay—known for those pink Cadillacs.
