My nickname is … Tarnold. Not the most creative, but my friends gave it to me in high school and it stuck.
I can’t go a day without … coffee. Despite being a lifelong Seattleite, I’m a boring Starbucks drip-coffee drinker.
If you were in my office, you’d … wonder how so much paper can fit on one desk.
My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I can complete most crosswords in five minutes or less (Saturday and Sunday excluded).
When I was a newbie lawyer I … had to figure out how to get aboard a ship anchored in the middle of Commencement Bay. I had to get onto the ship to help them work with the Coast Guard on a minor spill. I was worried I’d have to rent a kayak, but fortunately, I caught a ride with some Coast Guard folks.
The lawyer I most admire is … my mentor, Barbara Holland. She’s managed to carve out a successful practice in a very male-dominated field, and has always been there to help me figure out how best to advance my career.
The quality I most like in a lawyer is … humility.
When I started, I wish I knew … how much non-legal work goes into being a successful attorney.
My career high point (so far) has been … winning summary judgment on a complex maritime-lien case that had implications across the country. It meant that my client’s ships would not be seized as they sailed to ports around the world.
If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … a high school history teacher.
My favorite Twitter feed is … @minakimes. She’s always entertaining and presents a nice Seattle sports bias.
I can do a pretty good impersonation of … Chris Farley. I’ve been milking this impression for over 20 years. Probably time to get some new material.
My real-life heroes are … my mom and dad. They always managed to attend every one of my sporting events as I was growing up while having successful careers.
On weekends I … love spending time with my wife and daughter.
The talent I wish I had is … to be able to dunk a basketball. My monster slams on an 8-foot hoop don’t count.
The movie line I quote most often is … every line from Kindergarten Cop. A true masterwork.
I wish I had invented … the internet.
If I won the lottery, I’d … make a bunch of boring and responsible financial decisions. But I’d probably also buy a fancy sports car.
My guilty pleasure is … The Bachelor. Throw in a glass of rosé and it’s quite the experience.
My courtroom walk-up music would be … “Welcome to the Jungle.” Who doesn’t love some classic Guns N’ Roses?
If I had a time machine … I’d travel back to the 1950s and trick people into thinking I invented “Johnny B. Goode.” When I got back to modern day, I’d make sure not to street-race Needles in my sweet Toyota pickup.
