In the two-part series on Todd Harrison’s career, episode one would be landing his dream job in broadcast news, advances to host a talk show in Dallas, wins two Emmys. Episode two would be giving it all up.

These days, Harrison is an employment law attorney who helps clients fight wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and wage and hour cases. It’s something he relishes.

“I wanted to fight for people who are unable to fight for themselves, and level the playing field,” he says. “My clients have not necessarily suffered a physical injury, but they have had their dignity and their livelihood taken away. They need someone to help them right those wrongs.”

It’s a drastic shift from his old profession, in which he interviewed A-list celebrities visiting Dallas and chased down the top stories of the day, from plane crashes to the Columbine massacre.

Harrison had a ball going behind the scenes at the Academy Awards and concerts, as well as interviewing cultural icons, world leaders, and presidents like Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton and the George Bushes.

But covering tragedy and incessant travel wore Harrison down, and he decided to pursue his other dream profession. Now Harrison is managing partner of the employment division at Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin and Mendoza. He’s a tattooed and spiky haired lawyer who favors jeans around the office and goes to a lot of concerts.

The calls from injured employees keep coming, and Harrison rests assured that he made the right move. “I know I’m responsible for giving this person back a little bit of hope and getting their lost wages, or putting their dignity back intact,” he says. “I take my cases quite personally.”
