The Gibbs Giden attorney tells us what’s good in the neighborhood

FAVORITE WATERING HOLE – The Cellar, a slight step above a hole-in-the-wall masquerading as a classic English pub, located in our office building.
FAVORITE SPORTS BAR – Joxer Daly’s in Culver City. It has character, a lot of screens, and it’s an Irish bar. But it wins because it’s also a Washington Redskins bar, and that’s my hometown team. #HTTR.
WEEKEND GETAWAY – San Clemente: gorgeous views, great food and a relaxing vibe. It doesn’t hurt that one of my best friends lives there.
FAVORITE HISTORICAL SITE – Union Station in downtown LA, a combination of art deco and Spanish colonial revival architecture, beautifully restored.
WHERE TO GO AFTER A WIN? – Can I say The Cellar again? My colleagues and I go there a lot. No judgment on frequency, please—we’re lawyers, after all.
WHERE TO GO AFTER A LOSS? – You’d have to ask my opponents.
FAVORITE COURTHOUSE PERK – Grand Park, which is right next to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Sitting outside next to the fountain before a morning hearing is a moment of Zen before the battle.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR OFFICE – The people who work in it. I realize how cheesy and clichéd that sounds, but I am really lucky to work with some incredibly smart people who are also fun to be around.
FAVORITE BREAKFAST SPOT – Leo & Lily in Woodland Hills and Sweet Butter in Sherman Oaks are both excellent bistros.
FAVORITE LUNCH SPOT – Bay Cities Italian Deli in Santa Monica has the best sandwich in LA: the Godmother. And UberEATS brings it right to us on Wednesdays.
BEST VIEW – Driving south on Topanga Canyon, coming around the last bend before you hit Pacific Coast Highway. When the ocean suddenly comes into view, it makes me catch my breath every time.
FAVORITE PARK – Malibu Creek State Park is stunning, and there are so many different hikes to choose from. You can even hike to the M*A*S*H set.
GO-TO SPORTS VENUE – The Rose Bowl. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a client.
GO-TO ARTS VENUE – The Hollywood Bowl. The views and acoustics really are as good as people say.
BEST PLACE FOR PEOPLE-WATCHING – LAX.
FAVORITE LOCAL SHOP – The Last Bookstore. I love bookstores, which are sadly in short supply in recent years. This one is amazing and unique. The space is huge, it has a seemingly endless selection of new and used books, and The Labyrinth upstairs has incredible book art installations—including a book tunnel!
BEST PLACE TO REFLECT – Sitting on the beach on a sparsely populated stretch of sand, staring out at the Pacific.
FAVORITE COFFEE SHOP – I don’t like coffee. I realize that’s a fringe opinion.
