Best place to take a client – Still Gibsons, after all of these years—it’s a classic and has the best (and biggest) dirty martinis!
Favorite watering hole – The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel lobby—the hotel is known for its upscale restaurants, but the Drawing Room is a hidden gem of rich wood and fireplaces, evocative of a library.
Best restaurant – Girl & the Goat—the restaurant by Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard that ignited my passion for cauliflower. Tables are hard to come by, but if you go early you can snag a seat at the bar and enjoy the full menu there.
Favorite city event – St. Patty’s Day parade—I’m Irish!
Best place for a run – The lakefront path heading north from the aquarium offers a breathtaking view of the skyline, especially at sunrise.
Favorite breakfast spot – Stan’s Donuts. When I’m breaking my keto diet, donuts are considered a food group.
Favorite lunch spot – XOCO, Rick Bayless’ casual restaurant on Illinois, which serves homemade guacamole, tortas, and fabulous margaritas—even while you wait!
Best local beer, wine or spirit – Matilda, a Belgian ale by Goose Island.
Best late-nite eats – Au Cheval—cheeseburger with foie, yes please!
Favorite coffee shop – Intelligentsia. Black Cat Espresso all day.
Favorite pizza joint – My post-Chicago Marathon ritual is deep dish at Gino’s East.
Favorite building – The Rookery, on LaSalle Street, is a beautiful landmark building designed by Burnham and Root. The only unfortunate part is that you can’t see it from the Chicago Architecture Foundation Center River Cruise which I recommend to every Chicago visitor.
