Don't Try to Tell Elizabeth Crouse Tax Law Isn't Fun

My nickname is … The Fun One, as in The Fun Tax Lawyer. No, really. We exist.
If you were in my office, you’d … drown in the alphabet soup of OZs, FATCA, CRS, ITC, PTC
and OMG.
My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I have a rural noir/thriller featuring a bad-ass, complicated female veteran protagonist on query at publishers. Fingers crossed for Little Falls!
The qualities I most like in a lawyer are … practicality and business sense.
I almost quit the law because … I hadn’t found tax (and Professor Doug Kahn) yet. Hi, Doug!
The SCOTUS decision I’d overturn is … Citizens United. There’s nothing worse than bad law.
My fictional hero is … Hermione Granger. Girl gets it done.
My real-life hero is … Ruth Bader Ginsburg. My younger daughter is named for her.
The lawyer I’d most like to meet is … Marty Ginsburg. He was an awesome tax lawyer and cook. And hilarious. (No, really. Fun tax lawyers DO exist.)
I get annoyed when … clients want tax to drive their business. It’s a business, not a tax return!
On my best day I … write 1,000 words of my next novel.
On weekends I … chase my 3-year-old at the park and take ridiculous numbers of pictures of my baby. Oh, and bill.
The movie line I quote most often is … “It’s not a toomah!”—Kindergarten Cop
The book I just don’t get is … Lean In. Sandberg makes some great points, but the book is too narrow. What Works for Women at Work is my go-to for a pragmatic and holistic discussion about the choices women make and the challenges we face.
The last TV show I binge-watched was … Detectorists.
I can’t believe more people haven’t read … Sir Terry (Pratchett)!
Nothing cheers me up like … archaeology magazines and baby hugs.
If I had a morning show, my co-host would be … my colleague Elisabeth Yandell McNeil. It would be called E2 Energy because we lead KLG’s Women in Power initiative.
My favorite word is … dude. I’m a child of the ’80s …
I couldn’t do it without … my husband—he’s super-supportive and patient—and the rest of our tax group at KLG. I couldn’t ask for better colleagues and mentors.
