Cover Memories

Donald W. Boyajian, 2008: “I was blown away when they selected me, and it came out of the blue. It made my mother very happy, my being on the cover, and I was honored. I was born in ’56, but I still considered myself a young lawyer back then. I have kept most of my hair, I’m pretty proud of that, too. [While] the personal injury practice has changed dramatically since 2008, my partner Bill Dreyer and I are still together after 40 years. During that time, I like to think we’ve made a positive difference in the lives of many of our clients.”

Stephen R. Coffey, 2010: “It was a tremendous boost. Your organization has such credibility, that to be on the cover is really an honor. For me, it’s been very helpful; it’s reinforced my position in the community. Some people thought I was very candid about my relationship with my father. But people at the firm liked the interview, and I have colleagues who called to say they really liked the interview. … I put nothing in my office—degrees, awards or anything else. But I have a copy of that Super Lawyers on my wall. I put it this way: You tell me who has been on the cover who says, ‘I wish I weren’t.’ And you tell me who has never been on the cover and says, ‘I’m glad that I’m not.’ It’s valuable, in ways you might not even know.”

Ginger D. Schröder, 2015: “I cannot believe more than a decade has passed since my cover story. In some ways it seems like yesterday. I have wonderful memories of the week the magazine came out: I received numerous calls, emails, texts, and even reach-outs on social media platforms, from all over—clients, friends, and opponents against whom I had leveled up against over the years—all with congratulations and well wishes. It was very gratifying and I was so very honored.”

Kathleen M. Sweet, 2020: “It was an honor to be on the cover. It was in the middle of COVID, and I remember sitting in Niagara Square—keeping our social distance, myself and the reporter. I remember it fondly, even though it was unusual. Quite a few people in the community sent me their copy, which was really nice. … Our practice has changed so dramatically since then, in a lot of ways. I’m currently finishing my term as president of the New York State Bar Association, but I’m still with my same firm, representing the same kinds of clients. And I still get a lot of satisfaction out of that.”
